How long is the waiting period for an appointment?

SMB Counselling Group in Bedford has a two week guarantee, which means we will schedule your initial appointment within two weeks!

What is the difference between a counsellor and therapist?

All mental health professionals that hold a provincial license to practice, can be referred as either a Counsellor or Therapist! Whether someone holds a Master’s degree in Social Work or Master’s degree in Counselling, all are Counsellors/Therapists.

How long does therapy take?

Sessions are generally 50 minutes.

What is your cancellation policy?

Accepted Answer

24 hours notice is required for cancellations. The full hourly rate will be charged for any missed
appointments without the full 24 hours notice and will be paid prior to booking another
therapy session.

Question 5

I have insurance, will your counsellors be covered and do you direct bill?

Accepted Answer

Generally yes and yes.  Each individual benefit plan differs based on what YOUR EMPLOYER  chose for coverage.  We are happy to direct bill for any insurer that allows for direct billing for our providers, however not every insurer have opened  direct billing for mental health services.  We recommend you check your individual benefit plan. Ask whether Social Workers and/or Registered Counselling Therapists are covered!

I have never seen a counsellor before. How does it work? Is it in person or online?

You can choose on line, in person, or blended! You can even choose to go for a walk after your initial session if you prefer. We are not a traditional counselling team. We want our clients to feel at ease when they come for counselling; we meet the client where they are at in their wellness journey!

How do I pay for my sessions?

Accepted Answer

Payments are due prior to the time of the appointment. You can upload your credit card in your client portal, which will be provided to you once you have booked an individual counseling or online counseling appointment with us!

We direct bill to Blue Cross Medevie, Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB), Canada Life! but will gladly provide you with a receipt for submission to your individual insurance company.
